Entre los días 20 y 24 de abril de 2009, Madrid concentrará a expertos de la Web para debatir sobre su futuro: será con motivo del XVIII Congreso Internacional World Wide Web, que recalará en el Palacio Municipal de Congresos de la capital de España.
Durante cinco días, miles de investigadores, innovadores, gurús, tecnólogos, empresas, universidades y organismos oficiales, presentarán y discutirán sobre los últimos avances en la Web y sus futuros desarrollos, principalmente en torno a aspectos clave de la Web -como búsquedas, minería de datos, privacidad o interfaz de usuario- y a servicios asociados –tal es el caso de las redes sociales, los contenidos multimedia, la web móvil, o el e-business-.
Entre las personalidades confirmadas figuran Tim Berners-Lee, creador del concepto WWW, que el pasado viernes 13 de marzo de 2009 cumplió 20 años, y Vinton Cerf, considerado uno de los padres de Internet. Su presencia en Madrid será aprovechada para nombrarles doctor honoris causa por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, a instancia de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (ETSIT), por su trayectoria académica y de investigación. La ceremonia de investidura tendrá lugar el 21 de abril a las 12 horas en el Paraninfo de la Universidad. Juan Quemada, catedrático de la ETSIT, actuará como padrino de los nuevos doctores.
Además de Berners-Lee y Vinton Cerf, que participarán en una mesa redonda conmemorativa del 20 aniversario de la Web, también estarán presentes en el congreso otras personalidades del mundo Web como Robert Cailliau, pionero y fundador del congreso WWW; Dale Dougherty, acuñador del término web 2.0; Mike Shaver, fundador de Apache y vicepresidente de Mozilla; Alfred Z. Spectro, vicepresidente de investigación de Google; o Pablo Rodríguez, director científico de Internet de Telefónica I+D, entre otros muchos.
Bajo el paraguas del congreso tendrán lugar una conferencia técnica; la conferencia W4A, sobre accesibilidad a la Web; dos barcamps del W3C sobre web social y web móvil; un foro de desarrolladores web; 11 Workshop; 14 tutoriales; una exposición industrial de innovaciones en los servicios web, y la asamblea plenaria del “steering comitee” del IW3C2. Los dos primeros días del congreso se destinarán a los tutoriales, Workshops y a la conferencia W4A.
El día de la inauguración oficial será el 22 de abril, y contará con la presencia de los Príncipes de Asturias. Bien venida a Madrid la decimoctava edición del Congreso Internacional World Wide Web.
